Our guest speakers, Dr. David Marks, Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Director of Educational Outreach, and his associate, RuheeSutar, of The Child Study Center at NYU Langone Medical Center Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Their presentation "Cool with School: Identification and Management of Back-to-School Anxiety" was extremely informational. It put many parents' minds at ease. Guest Speaker: Ruth Fuller Special Education Assistive Technology District Specialist
Ruth Fuller provides assistive technology (AT) support for students, faculty, staff, administrators, and parents throughout our school district. She conducts AT trials and Assessments for students and attends CSE meetings. She ensures students have their Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) such as scanned textbooks and books in auditory modality. She works with a wide variety of devices and software to help remove barriers to learning so that students can access the general education curriculum. During this presentation, Ms. Fuller will review the most common assistive technologies used in the district such as Kurzweil text to speech software, Dragon Naturally Speaking voice recognition software, and Learning Ally. She will also review various devices we use with special needs students such as the iPad and Chromebook. Ms. Fuller is looking forward to also answering any questions you may have about AT in our schools.
